Yes, that’s right. Wimbledon started today (though NBC coverage doesn’t start until Saturday). I have strawberries. I have cream. I have tea. Heck, I even have Pimms. Life is good.

On the whole coding front, it seems that in my excitement to learn how to code by picking a project and diving right in, I’ve forgotten how inadequate my familiarity with MySQL, and the structure of internet apps in general, is. After spending far too much time trying to figure out why I can’t access MySQL from the command line on my local machine (or the simpler problem of what’s wrong with my sidebar), I’ve decided that I’m going to stop coding for at least a week, maybe two (to fully enjoy Wimbledon, perhaps). To avoid the temptation even, I’m going to stay away from any kind of personal computer in the meantime. When I come back, hopefully I’ll have a fresh mind and more patience to start from the very beginning.

So how do I plan on occupying myself in my copious spare time (besides watching Wimbledon)? Well, perhaps this is a good time to read Les Misérables (in English, despite the italics and accent mark), as per Max and Palmyra’s suggestion. I’ll also be trying to work on German (without the Tagesschau podcasts), and getting myself into a decent sleep schedule. I’ve also got some papers that I want to go through, and some health forms to fill out for HUHS. So I’ll see you, my nonexistent readers, in a couple of weeks!

So, I’ve posted a small roadmap at this page on Dan’s/everybody’s wiki, and am now in the process of installing Ruby on Rails locally on OSX, using the guide linked to from the Ruby on Rails homepage.

Anyway, the guide recommends having a tasty beverage to drink while waiting for things to compile. In that vein, I checked the fridge only to find that the Diet Coke still had ice in it from my mother’s putting it in the freezer. However, our fridge is always stocked with Diet Mountain Dew (some of you can see where this is going) since my father’s as addicted to the stuff as I am to Diet Coke (or rum, for that matter). So now I have two things to keep me occupied: Diet Mountain Dew, and a some thoughts I’ve been wanting to write up on this blog, while I’m waiting for things to compile.

Codemonkey like Tab and Mountain Dew. (NB: Jonathan Coulton is a Whiff.)

All that said, Xcode is done installing, so back I go.

On the bright side, the Yale College Democrats are bringing back the YCD blog.

Note to self: I have to figure out how to put Technorati tags in here more easily.
