Aha! I tricked you. (Of course, I’m sort of cheating because the people I didn’t trick into clicking on the whole “Don’t Click Me!” bit aren’t reading this page. How clever of me. If Raymond Smullyan cared about what I put on this site, I think he’d be proud.)
This is my “About Me” page. My name is Scott Caplan, and I’m currently a 1L at Harvard Law School. Please note that I still employ the indefinite article “a” as opposed to “an,” because, even though “one” is spelled with a vowel at the beginning, it is pronounced as though it began with a w, and therefore takes “a” as far as I’m concerned. Similarly, unless you speak with a Cockney accent, it should be “a history,” not “an history.” Now I’m quite a fan of snobbery, but some forms of it are just stupid.
Interests. Other things I’m a fan of include chess, tennis, tea, whiskey (I like whisky too, but I prefer whiskey), and reading humorous fiction (three of my favorite funny authors are Douglas Adams, Jean-Michel Ribes, and Amélie Nothomb). Random topics I’m interested in are algebraic number theory, fair division problems (especially those centered around voting), and the idea of the read/write web.
Education before vocational school. My mentis mater is IMACS, where I studied in the Elements of Mathematics and Computer Science curricula, while attending high school at NBPS. My alma mater is Yale, where I majored in math but spent most of my time playing chess and talking in the dining hall. Finally, my salis patres are my parents, and their jokes and stories alone have shaped who I am the most.
My politics. I’m passionate about voting systems and methods. I think the continued disfranchisement of the 600,00 Americans in the District of Columbia is a national disgrace. If you agree, check out DCVote. I want to see the electoral college abolished and party nominating schemes replaced by direct primaries. I support clean elections and stochastic apportionment.
