Last summer I worked for a great firm in New York, and got an offer from them to work after graduation. I was hoping to defer that offer for a clerkship in a federal district court, but from 35 applications I got 3 interviews (all in South Florida) and no offers.
Some of the districts I applied to, especially the one I would have most liked to clerk in (Puerto Rico), have a handful of judges who hire later in the calendar, so I remained hopeful for a while that I might still get a clerkship. Just before New Year’s, however, I decided it was pretty safe to assume I will be returning to my firm soon after taking the bar exam this year.
It’s a great firm, and I look forward to joining it as a first-year associate in September. My personal instinct is not to mention the name of the firm on this blog for one reason: the views expressed and statements made by me on this blog are my own in my personal capacity, and not those of any employer past or future. Putting the name of the firm on this blog would not change this fact, but to avoid any possibility of confusion I’m going to leave it out.
On a related note, if anybody knows of a good place to rent an apartment in Manhattan, drop me a line!
